We'd like a dashboard-level filter in SEI Canvas that the person viewing the dashboard can change — a single- or multi-select dropdown — with its options populated from a query or an SEI entity column (e.g. sei:mv_generic_issues.issue_type), and its selection substituted into every widget query on that dashboard that references it.
SEI custom variables (${name}) hold one value per team, set in team settings, and a dashboard viewer can't change them — the time picker is the only control they can adjust. Because of this, we build the same metric once per work level (Features, Epics, team work) instead of once with a filter, so a dashboard with ten metrics ends up with roughly thirty widgets that differ only in one filter value (e.g. ${work_level_predicate} fixed to a different level in each copy). A viewer-controlled dashboard filter would collapse that back down to one widget set per metric, with viewers toggling the work level (or similar dimensions) themselves.
